InPower's Vehicle Control Module (VCM) Timers
A valuable tool for the designers of vehicle electrical systems. |
| WHAT IS A VCM TIMER? |

Timers, or time delay relays, are used in many vehicle electrical system designs. These timers can be an electronic circuit that operates a mechanical relay, or in the case of InPower's VCM Timers, a 100% solid-state unit.
VCM Timers are a part of InPower's family of Vehicle Control Module products, which totals over 50 different models. These products are designed specifically for vehicle electrical systems, and utilize the industry standard automotive relay ¼ inch push-on terminal configuration. They are small, rugged, reliable, cost effective and easy to install. Dual timer inputs allow operation from either a ground or positive voltage circuit. The timer output is a solid-state driver rated at +12 volts 15 amps, and contains an automatic over current fault shut down feature. Timing functions provided are the industry standard on-delay, off-delay and one-shot. Models are available in fixed or adjustable time settings, and custom timer function can also be provided.
| WHAT ARE THE BASIC TYPES OF TIMERS? |
On-Delay VCM-03 Series
The on-delay timer will start its timer when the input is applied and maintained. When the timer expires the output is turned on. The output will turn off when the input is removed.

 Time Adjustment |
Time adjustable VCM Timers utilize a single-turn potentiometer to set the desired time value. This is done by using a small screwdriver to rotate the time adjustment between zero time (fully counterclockwise) and the maximum time (fully clockwise). The actual rotation is approximately 270 degrees.
Off-Delay VCM-04 Series
The off-delay timer will turn on its output when the input is applied. When the input is removed the timer is started. The output is turned off when the timer expires.
One-Shot VCM-05 Series
The one-shot timer will turn on its output and start its timer when the input is applied. The output will turn off when the timer expires.

| WHAT TIME RANGES ARE AVAILABLE? |
InPower's standard VCM Timers are model number coded to determine the timer's specifications.
